I PFAS, sostanze chimiche pericolose, sono arrivati anche sulla nostra tavola. E da molto più tempo di quanto potremmo pensare!
A lanciare l’allarme è il report “Toxic Harvest” del Pesticides Action Network che rivela che la presenza di residui di PFAS in frutta e verdura europea è più che triplicata dal 2011 al 2021, con un tasso di crescita del 220% per la frutta e del 274% per la verdura. Numeri impressionanti!
Il problema è che sono pericolosi anche per le persone! A dicembre 2023 l’IARC ha dichiarato che alcuni PFAS sono cancerogeni o potenzialmente tali. ALESSIO, chiedi anche tu una legge che vieti l’uso e la produzione di queste sostanze, firma la petizione!
Usati in moltissimi prodotti di largo consumo e nelle applicazioni industriali sono detti “inquinanti eterni” proprio perché sono praticamente indistruttibili: una volta dispersi in natura si degradano in tempi lunghissimi, accumulandosi nell’ambiente e contaminando, appunto, anche le risorse idriche, inclusa l’acqua potabile e il cibo che mangiamo, andando ad accumularsi nel nostro corpo.
Molti pesticidi utilizzati in Europa contengono PFAS, sostanze chimiche pericolose che possono contaminare il nostro cibo, come frutta e verdura, con gravi rischi per la salute. Chiedi anche tu al Governo Italiano una legge che ne vieti l’uso e la produzione!
Questo report si basa sui dati ufficiali dei programmi nazionali di monitoraggio dei residui di pesticidi negli alimenti negli Stati membri dell’UE e tra i principali dati emersi ci sono numeri allarmanti:
- Sono stati rilevati residui di 31 diversi pesticidi contenenti PFAS in frutta e verdura in Europa tra il 2011 e il 2021
- L’aumento più significativo di PFAS nella frutta interessa in particolare albicocche (+333%), pesche (+362%) e fragole (+534%)
- Gli ortaggi coltivati in Europa sono risultati in media meno contaminati dai PFAS rispetto alla frutta, ma alcuni risultano particolarmente inquinati: cicoria (42%), cetrioli (30%), peperoni (27%)
Fermare i PFAS è possibile e in Francia 🇫🇷 lo stanno già facendo: mentre in Europa questo report porta alla luce una situazione preoccupante, gli Stati Uniti hanno introdotto una nuova direttiva con limiti molto severi sulla presenza di PFAS nell’acqua potabile e la Francia ha appena vietato l’uso di queste sostanze in molti prodotti di uso comune.
L’uso di PFAS nei pesticidi contamina frutta e verdura: non possiamo più minimizzare quanto sta accadendo perché ormai è chiaro che l’accumulo di queste sostanze coinvolge non solo suolo e acqua ma anche la nostra catena alimentare, con conseguenze molto serie sulla salute umana.
Problemi alla tiroide, danni al fegato e al sistema immunitario, alcune forme tumorali come il cancro al rene e ai testicoli sono solo alcuni dei danni associati ai PFAS. ALESSIO, non c’è più tempo da perdere, firma la petizione per chiedere al Governo italiano la messa al bando dei PFAS!

Grazie ad una grande mobilitazione, nel 2017 siamo riusciti ad ottenere l’introduzione in Veneto di limiti per la presenza di PFAS nell’acqua potabile e la pubblicazione periodica dei dati sulla presenza di queste sostanze negli acquedotti dell’area più contaminata. Oggi però è urgente un cambio di passo, firma la petizione per far sentire la tua voce e quella di tante altre persone al Governo Italiano per chiedere un provvedimento nazionale che vieti l’uso e la produzione di tutti i PFAS.
Non accettiamo un centesimo da parte di governi, partiti politici, aziende.

This report is based on official data from national monitoring programs for pesticide residues in food in EU Member States and among the main data that emerged there are alarming numbers:
Residues of 31 different pesticides containing PFAS were detected in fruit and vegetables in Europe between 2011 and 2021
The most significant increase in PFAS in fruit particularly affects apricots (+333%), peaches (+362%) and strawberries (+534%)
The vegetables grown in Europe were on average less contaminated by PFAS than fruit, but some were particularly polluted: chicory (42%), cucumbers (30%), peppers (27%)

The use of PFAS in pesticides contaminates fruit and vegetables: we can no longer minimize what is happening because it is now clear that the accumulation of these substances involves not only soil and water but also our food chain, with very serious consequences on human health .
Thyroid problems, damage to the liver and immune system, some forms of cancer such as kidney and testicular cancer are just some of the damages associated with PFAS. ALESSIO, there is no more time to waste, sign the petition to ask the Italian Government to ban PFAS!

Nella nostra ultima inchiesta sui PFAS, presentata alla Camera dei Deputati, riveliamo come in Italia la contaminazione da PFAS, queste sostanze chimiche pericolose, è un fenomeno diffuso, che riguarda molti corsi d’acqua di tutte le Regioni italiane in cui sono state finora cercate, nessuna esclusa.
La nostra indagine mostra gli esiti delle analisi fatte dalle ARPA regionali e delle province autonome in Italia tra il 2019 e il 2022 sulla presenza di PFAS in fiumi, laghi e acque sotterranee. Si tratta di quasi 18 mila analisi positive a queste sostanze, un risultato che mostra chiaramente un inquinamento ambientale esteso e molto grave nel nostro Paese.
Perché l’Italia è così colpita da questa contaminazione? La risposta è semplice: per il profitto delle industrie che continuano impunemente a inquinare grazie all’assenza di una legge che vieti l’uso e la produzione di queste sostanze. Un esempio è l’azienda chimica Solvay (oggi Syensqo), unica in Italia ancora attiva nella produzione di PFAS.
Il problema infatti è che sono pericolosi anche per le persone! A dicembre 2023 la IARC, l’agenzia delle Nazioni unite per la ricerca sul cancro, ha dichiarato che alcuni PFAS sono cancerogeni o potenzialmente tali. 16 ITALIAN REGIONS ARE CONTAMINATED BY PFAS
Hello Alessio,
In our latest investigation on PFAS, presented to the Chamber of Deputies, we reveal how in Italy the contamination by PFAS, these dangerous chemical substances, is a widespread phenomenon, which concerns many waterways in all the Italian regions where they have been searched for so far , none excluded.
Our investigation shows the results of the analyzes carried out by the regional ARPAs and autonomous provinces in Italy between 2019 and 2022 on the presence of PFAS in rivers, lakes and groundwater. These are almost 18 thousand positive analyzes for these substances, a result that clearly shows extensive and very serious environmental pollution in our country.
Why is Italy so affected by this contamination? The answer is simple: for the profit of industries that continue to pollute with impunity thanks to the absence of a law that prohibits the use and production of these substances. An example is the chemical company Solvay (now Syensqo), the only one in Italy still active in the production of PFAS.
In fact, the problem is that they are also dangerous for people! In December 2023, IARC, the United Nations agency for cancer research, declared that some PFAS are carcinogenic or potentially carcinogenic. ALESSIO, help us reach as many people as possible to ask for a law that bans the use and production of these dangerous chemicals!
Sixteen regions in Italy have waterways contaminated with PFAS, chemical substances dangerous for the environment and human health! Help us reach as many people as possible to ask the Italian Government for a law that immediately bans its use and production!
The percentage of positive values for PFAS varies from Region to Region, also depending on the accuracy of the measurements carried out by the various public bodies. Basilicata (31%), Veneto (30%) and Liguria (30%) are the Regions with the highest percentage of positive tests compared to the checks carried out between 2019 and 2022. Six other Regions (Lombardy, Tuscany, Lazio, Umbria, Abruzzo, Campania) have a positivity rate higher than 10% in the period taken into consideration.
Veneto, on the other hand, is the region where we find the highest concentrations of some PFAS such as PFOA and PFOS. A result that is not surprising given that this Region has for years been the scene of one of the most serious contaminations in all of Europe, due to environmental pollution that also involves the drinking water of various municipalities in the provinces of Vicenza, Verona and Padua. The data also highlights critical issues in the Alessandria area, in the Novara area, in Lombardy (provinces of Como, Lecco, Pavia and Monza Brianza), in Lazio (Rome, Ponte Galeria area and Viterbo area), in Emilia Romagna and in Abruzzo.
The situation represented by the data from our investigation is serious, but the reality could be even worse because it is partial data. In four regions of southern Italy (Puglia, Sardinia, Molise and Calabria), from 2017 to 2022 there was no control on the presence of PFAS in water bodies.
To protect the environment and people’s health, the United States and several European countries have already adopted limits on the use of PFAS, replacing them with safer alternatives already available. ALESSIO, there is no more time to waste, help us reach as many people as possible to ask the Italian government with us to ban PFAS!

Invisibili e pericolosi, procurano danni alla salute. ALESSIO, aiutaci a fermare i PFAS!
ALESSIO, molto spesso i nemici della salute sono microscopici, invisibili e proprio per questo sono più pericolosi. Si trovano nella pioggia, viaggiano nell’acqua che beviamo, nel cibo che arriva sulle nostre tavole, e raggiungono il nostro organismo, il nostro sangue.
Quello che Greenpeace sta facendo da anni è rendere visibile questo pericolo: i PFAS, sostanze chimiche utilizzate dalle industrie per produrre abbigliamento, cosmetici, packaging per alimenti e tanti altri prodotti di uso comune. “Inquinanti eterni” vengono definiti, proprio perché si degradano in tempi lunghissimi.
Dobbiamo cambiare urgentemente le cose perché i PFAS viaggiano nell’ambiente e arrivano nel nostro corpo, anche nella placenta delle donne incinte e nel cordone ombelicale. Sì, oggi i bambini possono nascere con una traccia indelebile: i PFAS nel loro sangue.
Oggi sono ben 16 le regioni italiane in cui gli enti pubblici hanno accertato la contaminazione da PFAS! Valle D’Aosta, Trentino Alto Adige, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Piemonte, Lombardia, Liguria, Toscana, Emilia Romagna, Marche, Umbria, Abruzzo, Lazio, Campania, Basilicata e Sicilia. E le altre regioni? Purtroppo non disponiamo ancora di dati perché in Molise, Puglia, Calabria e Sardegna le istituzioni non hanno effettuato controlli efficaci negli ultimi anni.
Stiamo continuando le nostre ricerche per quantificare la dimensione
dell’inquinamento da PFAS in Italia perché sappiamo che le conseguenze sulla salute delle persone possono essere davvero gravi. Lo sanno bene gli abitanti di alcune aree del Veneto e del Piemonte che da anni convivono con elevati livelli di inquinamento. Non vogliamo che questo problema venga sottovalutato dal Governo e delle istituzioni: non si scherza con la nostra salute!
L’inquinamento da PFAS è oramai fuori controllo e non risparmia nessuno. Da nord a sud, dalle grandi città alle piccole, dai meno ai più giovani, le nuove ricerche scientifiche ci dicono che la contaminazione è ovunque.
ALESSIO, oggi i bambini possono nascere con una traccia indelebile di PFAS nel loro sangue. Nel corpo umano queste sostanze sono state trovate nel sangue, nelle urine e le mamme possono ritrovarseli nella placenta, nel cordone ombelicale e persino nel latte materno. Nemmeno i feti e i neonati sono al riparo dalla contaminazione dei PFAS!
Non saremmo così indignati e preoccupati se non conoscessimo bene quali sono gli effetti di questi inquinanti.
L’esposizione ai PFAS è associata a una serie di effetti negativi sulla salute. Problemi alla tiroide, danni al fegato e al sistema immunitario, riduzione del peso alla nascita dei neonati, diabete, elevati livelli di colesterolo e riduzione della risposta immunitaria ai vaccini, diabete gestazionale, impatto negativo sulla fertilità, oltre che alcune forme tumorali come il cancro al rene e ai testicoli. Sono le persone fragili, i bambini e le donne incinte a pagare il prezzo più alto. Ma nemmeno i giovani sono al riparo.
Infatti, tramite l’analisi delle diverse classi d’età, uno studio ha evidenziato un aumento del rischio di insorgenza di malattie tumorali al diminuire dell’età.
La popolazione più giovane, esposta ai PFAS già durante l’infanzia, è quella che paga il prezzo più alto.
E oltre al danno, la beffa: in Italia è presente la Solvay (oggi Syensquo), l’azienda multimilionaria produttrice di PFAS e accusata di disastro ambientale per l’inquinamento generato negli anni. Noi di Greenpeace ci siamo costituiti parte civile nel processo perché vogliamo essere al fianco della popolazione contro i crimini ambientali commessi dalla multinazionale belga in questi anni.
Come vedi non ci fermiamo davanti a nulla, né davanti alle aziende, né davanti ai governi.

We urgently need to change things because PFAS travel in the environment and end up in our bodies, including in the placenta of pregnant women and the umbilical cord. Yes, children today can be born with an indelible trace: PFAS in their blood.
Today there are 16 Italian regions in which public bodies have confirmed PFAS contamination! Valle D’Aosta, Trentino Alto Adige, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Piedmont, Lombardy, Liguria, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, Marche, Umbria, Abruzzo, Lazio, Campania, Basilicata and Sicily. And the other regions? Unfortunately we do not yet have data because in Molise, Puglia, Calabria and Sardinia the institutions have not carried out effective controls in recent years.
We are continuing our research to quantify the size
of PFAS pollution in Italy because we know that the consequences on people’s health can be truly serious. The inhabitants of some areas of Veneto and Piedmont who have lived with high levels of pollution for years know this well. We don’t want this problem to be underestimated by the Government and institutions: don’t mess with our health!
PFAS pollution is now out of control and spares no one. From north to south, from large cities to small ones, from the least to the youngest, new scientific research tells us that contamination is everywhere.
ALESSIO, today children can be born with an indelible trace of PFAS in their blood. In the human body these substances have been found in blood, urine and mothers can find them in the placenta, umbilical cord and even breast milk. Not even fetuses and newborns are safe from PFAS contamination!
We wouldn’t be so outraged and worried if we didn’t know well what the effects of these pollutants are.
Exposure to PFAS is associated with a variety of adverse health effects. Thyroid problems, damage to the liver and immune system, reduced birth weight of newborns, diabetes, high cholesterol levels and reduced immune response to vaccines, gestational diabetes, negative impact on fertility, as well as some forms of cancer such as cancer to the kidney and testicles. It is fragile people, children and pregnant women who pay the highest price. But not even young people are safe.
In fact, through the analysis of different age groups, a study highlighted an increase in the risk of the onset of tumor diseases as age decreases.
The younger population, exposed to PFAS already during childhood, is the one that pays the highest price.
And to add insult to injury: Solvay (now Syensquo) is present in Italy, the multi-million dollar company producing PFAS and accused of an environmental disaster due to the pollution generated over the years. We at Greenpeace have formed a civil party in the trial because we want to be alongside the population against the environmental crimes committed by the Belgian multinational in recent years.
As you can see, we stop at nothing, neither in front of companies nor in front of governments.
