Incubatrici, ambulanze, medicine, tonnellate di cibo. Sono una piccola parte degli aiuti respinti dall’esercito israeliano al valico di Rafah, ammassati in un magazzino a poca distanza. E intanto a Gaza si muore di fame e di malattie.
Mi porto via da Gaza come una ferita le parole di Youssef, un cooperante che ci ha accompagnato in questi giorni e che ha la famiglia dentro Gaza. Nella sua casa oggi ci sono 47 persone, tra parenti e amici sfollati. Youssef prega che ogni bomba che cade non cada su quella casa dove ci sono le persone che ama. E subito dopo si sente in colpa, perché se le sue preghiere saranno esaudite, quelle bombe, cadranno su altre case, su altre famiglie.

But we also saw the horror outside Gaza, in the 25 kilometers of trucks stopped on the road, loaded with aid for the Palestinians, which the Palestinians will not see, because Israel blocks almost all supplies (here is my video denunciation).
Incubators, ambulances, medicines, tons of food. They are a small part of the aid rejected by the Israeli army at the Rafah crossing, piled up in a warehouse a short distance away. And in the meantime, people are dying of hunger and disease in Gaza.
I carry away from Gaza like a wound the words of Youssef, a aid worker who has accompanied us in recent days and who has his family inside Gaza. In his house today there are 47 people, including displaced relatives and friends. Youssef prays that every bomb that falls does not fall on that house where the people he loves are. And immediately afterwards he feels guilty, because if his prayers are answered, those bombs will fall on other houses, on other families.

China has told the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that the Palestinians “must not be denied” justice at a hearing on the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.
“Justice has been long delayed, but it must not be denied,” China’s Foreign Ministry’s legal adviser Ma Xinmin told the court in The Hague in the Netherlands on Thursday.
“Fifty-seven years have passed since Israel began its occupation of the OPT (Occupied Palestinian Territories). The unlawful nature of the occupation and sovereignty over the occupied territories remain unchanged,” he said.
Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen, reporting from The Hague, said China used its time at the ICJ to counter the United States’ argument on Wednesday that Israel should not be ordered to unconditionally withdraw from the occupied territories without security guarantees.
“The US said the United Nations and the ICJ should stay out of a bilateral issue between Israel and Palestine. According to China, it was definitely a matter for the UN to talk about the self-determination of the Palestinian people,” Vaessen said.

On Thursday, representatives from the Republic of Ireland, Japan, and Jordan also presented their arguments at the ICJ.
Ireland said it concluded that “Israel has committed serious breaches of a number of peremptory norms of general international law”.
The Irish representative added that Israel had also breached the basic rules of international humanitarian law.
The legal adviser for Japan’s Foreign Ministry, Tomohiro Mikanagi, also told the ICJ that his country believes a “two-state solution where Israel and the future independent Palestinian state live side by side in peace and dignity remains the only viable path for both peoples”.
For Jordan, Michael Wood said that “the only way for the [Palestinian] right to self-determination to be exercised is for the [Israeli] occupation to come to an end”.
Al Jazeera’s Hamdah Salhut, reporting from occupied east Jerusalem, said Jordan holds a “key position” at the ICJ hearing as it is one of the most prominent critics of the occupation and is also the custodian of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem.
“While they have been not only critics of the occupation, they’ve been critics of Israel’s war on Gaza, so their role within the region is quite crucial for aiding the Palestinians in any sort of conversations,” she said.

The ICJ is hearing from about 50 countries on their opinion about the occupation and is part of a push by Palestinians to get international legal institutions to examine Israeli policy.
On Monday, Palestinian representatives asked the judges to declare Israel’s occupation of their territory illegal and said its opinion could help reach a two-state solution.
In the occupied West Bank, tensions between illegal settlers and Palestinians intensified significantly due to Israel’s war on Gaza.
On October 7, a Hamas attack killed 1,139 Israelis, according to Al Jazeera’s tally of Israeli figures. In response, Israel’s deadly offensive on Gaza has killed about 29,000 Palestinians.
Israel, which is not participating in the hearings, said in written comments that the court’s involvement could harm achieving a negotiated settlement.
The judges are expected to take roughly six months to issue an opinion.

Proteggere i civili a Gaza, favorire in tutti i modi la ripresa delle pause umanitarie. Ma anche garantire l’autodifesa di Israele ma nel rispetto del diritto internazionale e fermare “rigorosamente” l’acuirsi degli scontri in Cisgiordania. Sono alcuni dei punti della linea tracciata dal Consiglio supremo di Difesa convocato da Sergio Mattarella. Tra i punti affrontati, anche la volontà di riprendere il dialogo con l’Autorità Nazionale Palestinese e soprattutto tenere sempre al centro l’unica soluzione possibile per il conflitto, cioè la soluzione “due popoli due Stati”.
La guerra in Ucraina
Dopo due ore e mezza di colloquio tra il capo dello Stato, la presidente del Consiglio Giorgia Melonie i ministri interessati come, solo per citarne alcuni, quello della Difesa Crosetto e degli Esteri Tajani – con la consulenza del capo di stato maggiore della Difesa, Giuseppe Cavo Dragone – il Consiglio superiore di Difesa ha preparato un lungo comunicato con il quale si conferma la linea sulla guerra in Ucraina. Oltre a ribadire “la ferma condanna dell’aggressione operata dalla Federazione Russa e il pieno sostegno dell’Italia all’Ucraina nella sua difesa contro l’invasore”, il Csd sottolinea la necessità di esplorare “prospettive che permettano di giungere a una pace che sia giusta e duratura, in conformità al diritto internazionale, e per l’avvio di un piano di ricostruzione dell’Ucraina”.
Il conflitto a Gaza
Rispetto al conflitto a Gaza, il Consiglio Supremo di Difesa condanna ferma delle “brutalità di Hamas” senza nascondere le “preoccupazioni” crescenti per il moltiplicarsi di atti di antisemitismo anche in Italia. E la premier Meloni parlando alla presentazione del libro PhotoAnsa 2023 ha chiarito: “L’antisemitismo è un cancro che si deve sconfiggere”.
Il Consiglio ha sottolineato la necessità di proteggere i civili a Gaza: “fermo il diritto di Israele all’autodifesa nel rispetto del diritto internazionale, va assolutamente assicurata l’incolumità della popolazione civile e va scongiurato l’allargamento del conflitto nella regione”. E ha precisato: “Va rigorosamente fermato l’acuirsi degli scontri in Cisgiordania”. Infine la parte più politica elaborata dal Csd: “Il Consiglio ha giudicato imprescindibile avviare quanto prima una riflessione della comunità internazionale sulla gestione della Striscia di Gaza, superata questa drammatica fase, e favorire la ripresa di un dialogo politico con l’Autorità Nazionale Palestinese, al fine di individuare una soluzione sostenibile e duratura del conflitto israelo-palestinese basata sul principio “due popoli, due Stati”.
Preoccupa infatti anche l’esplosivo fronte libanese dove tutt’oggi sono impiegati circa mille militari italiani: “Particolare attenzione è stata posta alla situazione lungo la Linea Blu che separa il Libano da Israele, a presidio della quale, nel Sud del Libano, sono dispiegati i soldati della missione Unifil delle Nazioni Unite”.
