Shaima Qazeat e Mahmud Akhiziq, una coppia di giovanissimi palestinesi entrambi sfollati nel campo rifugiati di Gaza, a causa dei bombardamenti aerei israeliani della Israeli Defence Force (IDF), l’esercito di occupazione sionista che ha distrutto le loro case delle loro famiglie di origine a Gaza, hanno deciso di unirsi nel sacro vincolo del matrimonio islamico il giorno 16 Febbraio 2024: lei Saima è in abito bianco, scarpe bianche, fiori rossi in mano e protegge il viso con il velo perché dovrebbe trattarsi sia di una minorenne e sia per ovvie questioni legate alla religione islamica sciita, che da anni impone alla donne palestinesi di indossare il velo prima, durante e dopo il matrimonio, mentre lui Mahmud è in abiti civili: camicia tradizionale, jeans e scarpe marroni. Nonostante si trovino entrambi sfollati con le loro famiglie all’interno di un campo profughi, quello che mi ha colpito maggiormente è la loro momentanea serenità, espressa dallo splendido sorriso che ha lui e che ha lei, anche se non si vede perché nascosto dal velo.
Posto di seguito le fotografie di questa coppia che ha deciso di prendere la decisione più importante e saggia della loro vita in un momento terribile per tutti i palestinesi, perseguitati da 75 anni da Israele e dai loro coloni, una decisione atta a testimoniate ancora una volta quanto l’amore sia fondamentale contro la discriminazione e la morte che sta seminando l’Apartheid israeliana lungo l’intera Striscia di Gaza dallo scorso Ottobre 2023.
La pagina X di Eye on Palestine ha mostrato un video in cui ci si riferisce all’uccisione di una giovane coppia nel campo rifugiati di Rafah al confine con l’Egitto e la mia mente è subito andata ai due sposi di Deir Al-Balah, pensando che la paura di essere uccisi dall’occupazione li avesse messi in movimento verso Rafah, ma stanno arrivando le prime secche smentite in merito all’uccisione della coppia di Deir Al-Balah che secondo le ultime indiscrezioni è ancora viva e vegeta ed in queste ore si stanno diffondendo dei post di risposta atti a chiarire la situazione e che la coppia uccisa a Rafah è un’altra, per cui al momento posso dire apertamente: “Lunga vita a Shaima e a Mahmud e figli combattenti, come i loro genitori!”

A midfielder for third division side Turmus Aya was killed on Wednesday, June 21st in the latest incidents of settler violence in the Occupied West Bank. The PFA confirmed the player’s death on their official Facebook page with an image of his registration card.
Omar Abu Qatin was a speedy winger for his hometown club. The 25 year old leaves behind a wife and two children after being shot in the chest outside his home. He worked as an electrician for the municipality suiting up for Turmus Ayya on the weekends.
Although the violence this week has been spearheaded by vigilante attacks conducted by extremist settlers. The Associated Press reported that Abu Qatin was shot and killed by the IDF who routinely show up to the scene of vigilante attacks, not to stop them- but to support them.
Mayor Lafi Adeeb said that “The attacks intensified in the past hour even after the army came,” he said. At least eight Palestinians were hurt during the ensuing chaos, which the IDF claimed it tried to disperse by firing tear gas and rubber bullets.
“He was just standing there, innocent, he is such a kindhearted kid. He had no stones, he was totally unarmed, he was at least half a mile (one kilometer) away from the military,” said Khamis Jbara, his neighbor. “He works from 6am to 6pm. He is a peaceful man.”
Omar Abu Qatin’s murder at the hands of Israeli forces is the latest round of attacks on Palestinian football. The cup final in March was interrupted when forces fired teargas into the stands of Faisal Al-Husseini Stadium, last December IDF forces shot and killed Ahmed Daraghmeh– the fourth top scorer in the WBPL at the time.
During the War on Gaza in May 2021 Beit Hanoun midfielder Muath Al-Zaaneen was killed by an Israeli airstrike. The assault also destroyed the homes of national team players Mohammed Saleh and Mohammed Balah.
FIFA and the FIFPRO have yet to issue comment on Omar Abu Qatin’s murder.

Le medaglie hanno sempre due facce. Ignorarne una, sia pure invocando le ragioni più solide o i più radicati rancori, è comunque un errore, uno sviare dalla realtà, un deformare lo specchio della storia. Storia che ci riporta al maggio del 1948, 75 anni fa: quando David Ben Gurion, leader dell’Agenzia ebraica, proclamò la nascita dello Stato d’Israele, diventandone poi il primo premier della storia. La decisione era stata presa l’anno prima, all’indomani della fine della Seconda Guerra Mondiale e dell’Olocausto, dall’Assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite che aveva approvato, con un voto non unanime (33 a favore, 13 contrari, 10 astenuti), la divisione della Palestina, all’epoca sotto controllo amministrativo della Gran Bretagna. Un piano di spartizione mai accettato dai paesi arabi limitrofi (Egitto, Siria, Libano, Iraq) che dichiararono immediatamente guerra allo stato ebraico (qui un approfondimento su come i media britannici si occuparono, all’epoca, della vicenda). Quei giorni, e quelle decisioni, hanno segnato un drastico, basilare e doloroso punto di svolta, aggettivi che variano a seconda dell’angolazione dello sguardo. Per alcuni si è trattato di un sogno finalmente diventato realtà: uno stato indipendente in grado di offrire agli ebrei perseguitati una patria, una casa, un rifugio. Per altri fu l’inizio di un drammatico esodo, della “Nakba” (in arabo al-Nakbah, la catastrofe), quella che costrinse circa 750mila palestinesi a fuggire e a lasciare le proprie terre, le loro case. Uno strappo della storia ancora irrisolto, che continua a generare tensione, dentro e fuori l’intero Medio Oriente.
Quindi sono due gli anniversari da celebrare in questo 2023 (quello dei 75 anni d’indipendenza d’Israele è stato festeggiato il 25 aprile, secondo il calendario ebraico), anche se di segno diametralmente opposto: uno di festa, l’altro assai meno. E se n’è resa conto anche l’Onu che lunedì scorso, per la prima volta, ha voluto commemorare ufficialmente l’esodo forzato dei palestinesi del 1948. L’Assemblea Generale, che nel frattempo è cresciuta a 193 membri, aveva approvato lo scorso 30 novembre una risoluzione in tal senso, con 90 voti favorevoli, 30 contrari (tra i quali spiccano i no di Stati Uniti, Canada, Regno Unito, Germania, Italia, Paesi Bassi, Danimarca, Ungheria, Austria) e 47 astensioni. Riyad Mansour, ambasciatore palestinese alle Nazioni Unite, aveva definito “storica” la decisione dell’Assemblea: «Sta riconoscendo la responsabilità delle Nazioni Unite di non essere in grado di risolvere questa catastrofe per il popolo palestinese per 75 anni: una catastrofe ancora in corso». Mentre il presidente palestinese Mahmoud Abbas, nel suo intervento di lunedì scorso a New York, nella sede dell’Onu, ha esortato le Nazioni Unite a «sospendere l’adesione di Israele all’organismo mondiale a meno che non ponga fine alla sua aggressione contro i palestinesi e attui le risoluzioni delle Nazioni Unite che istituiscono stati separati israeliani e palestinesi, nonché il ritorno dei rifugiati palestinesi». Abbas ha anche mostrato una lettera dell’allora ministro degli Esteri israeliano, Moshe Sharett, successiva alla risoluzione del 1948, nella quale prometteva di creare uno stato palestinese e consentire il ritorno dei rifugiati: «O adempiono a questi obblighi, o devono smettere di essere membri dell’Onu». Il presidente palestinese, che ha inoltre accusato Israele di non aver mai rispettato, né implementato le circa mille risoluzioni relative a Israele adottate negli anni dall’Assemblea generale, dal Consiglio di sicurezza e dal Consiglio dei diritti umani dell’Onu, ha chiesto anche di istituire, il 15 maggio di ogni anno, una giornata internazionale per “commemorare la difficile situazione palestinese”.
La rabbia israeliana: «Iniziativa spregevole»
Commemorazione che, come prevedibile, s’è immediatamente trasformata in terreno di scontro. Con il rappresentante israeliano alle Nazioni Unite, Gilad Erdan, che nei giorni scorsi aveva definito “spregevole” la scelta di commemorare la Nakba palestinese, scrivendo anche una lettera agli altri ambasciatori invitandoli a non partecipare all’evento: invito raccolto da 32 paesi. Il ministro degli esteri d’Israele, Eli Cohen, ha commentato con durezza: «Combatteremo la menzogna della Nakba con tutte le forze e non permetteremo ai palestinesi di continuare a diffondere menzogne e distorcere la storia». Lunedì scorso il redattore capo dell’agenzia di stampa Jewish News Syndacate, Jonathan S. Tobin, ha scritto un lungo articolo nel quale critica una corrispondenza del New York Times, firmata dalla corrispondente Raja Abdulrahim, sugli ultimi scontri tra Israele e Gaza, ma che restituisce l’esatta dimensione della differenza di sguardo: «Per loro (i palestinesi) il 15 maggio – primo giorno d’indipendenza di Israele, che proclamò la propria indipendenza la sera del 14 maggio 1948 (in conformità a decisioni dell’Onu) – definisce l’esistenza palestinese come “popolo martire” il cui risentimento revanscista deve essere nutrito e alimentato fino a quando lo stato ebraico e la storia del secolo scorso non saranno cancellati. Scopo di questa politica palestinese non è creare uno stato accanto a Israele o qualsiasi altro obiettivo teoricamente costruttivo. È piuttosto quello di creare una serie infinita di eventi che sono in pratica mini-nakbe a ripetizione, in modo da mantenere viva la causa e alimentare all’infinito la rabbia per la capacità di Israele di sopravvivere e addirittura prosperare». Tobin poi prosegue: «Quest’ultimo round di combattimenti non è semplicemente una “spirale di violenza”, che falsamente Abdulrahim afferma essere stata avviata dall’esercito israeliano. È invece parte di una guerra secolare il cui scopo è l’annichilimento di Israele. Quel pezzo sul New York Times è un classico esempio del pregiudizio dei mass-media. Ma indica anche un problema più ampio che domina il discorso sul conflitto: un deliberato esercizio di offuscamento in cui tutti fingono che il conflitto sia riducibile a niente più che un dissidio tra due parti che non riescono a trovare un compromesso. Insistere a etichettare falsamente i veri originari del paese – gli ebrei – come invasori alieni colonialisti, serve a conservare il presunto status palestinese di “vittime del privilegio bianco”. La commemorazione della loro storica sconfitta del 1948 ignora il fatto che vi fu uno scambio di popolazioni di profughi, con centinaia di migliaia di arabi in fuga o costretti a lasciare le loro case in quello che oggi è Israele, mentre un numero ancora maggiore di ebrei veniva cacciato da paesi in cui vivevano da molti secoli in tutto il mondo arabo e musulmano. Coloro che aderiscono alle commemorazioni palestinesi della nakba sembrano convinti che, protestando abbastanza forte e abbastanza a lungo, un giorno gli israeliani si stancheranno di lottare a difesa della loro esistenza e si arrenderanno. Questo semplicemente non accadrà mai».
Gli estremismi di Netanyahu
Condivisibili o meno, sono comunque parole che spiegano. Che tracciano un solco netto, che indicano una “ragione”, peraltro sostenuta dall’attuale governo di estrema destra, ancora una volta guidato da Benjamin Netanyahu. Ma è un periodo tutt’altro che semplice per Israele, che si ritrova ad affrontare una delle più profonde crisi interne, con una società profondamente lacerata, un’economia che comincia a traballare e una maggioranza politica altrettanto instabile che sembra sempre più disponibile a cavalcare le forme più radicali di estremismo, anche religioso (oltre al Likud, il governo comprende due partiti ultra-ortodossi e tre partiti di estrema destra, tra cui il partito sionista religioso, una fazione ultranazionalista affiliata al movimento dei coloni). Anche a costo di mettere in pericolo la tenuta democratica del paese. Fino a sostenere apertamente l’espansione degli insediamenti e legalizzare gli avamposti costruiti illegalmente in Cisgiordania (il mese scorso migliaia di coloni israeliani, accompagnati da sette ministri del governo Netanyahu, hanno marciato in Cisgiordania verso l’avamposto illegale di Eviatar). Inoltre da mesi sono in corso poderose manifestazioni di protesta per contrastare un progetto di riforma della giustizia, che toglierebbe potere e autonomia ai giudici della Corte Suprema, a favore delle decisioni a maggioranza della Knesset, il Parlamento monocamerale israeliano. In una recente “contro-manifestazione” dei sostenitori del governo di estrema destra, alcuni partecipanti hanno calpestato i manifesti dei giudici della Corte Suprema. Una polarizzazione da “con noi o contro di noi” che Israele non aveva mai conosciuto. Al punto che diversi analisti si chiedono se gli ultimi eventi non siano un segnale di una progressiva trasformazione da “stato ebraico” a “teocrazia”. Netanyahu sembra disponibile a muoversi in quella direzione più per interessi personali (è rincorso da quattro processi per frode e corruzione) che per convinzione, ma la sua nuova “traiettoria politica” ha già suscitato più di qualche malumore nell’alleato storico, gli Stati Uniti, e mette a repentaglio la stabilità dell’intera area.
Il Primo Ministro israeliano Benyamin Netanyahu, il diretto promotore dell’ “Operazione Scudo e Freccia” consistente in bombardamenti aerei contro la popolazione civile, soprattutto donne e bambini palestinesi. Amnesty International, l’Organizzazione che difende i Diritti Umani nel Mondo ha richiesto all’Organizzazione delle Nazioni Unite il cessate il fuoco, di istituire un embargo militare nei riguardi dello stato israeliano ed intimare al Presidente Netanyahu di cessare l’Apartheid degli israeliani sui palestinesi, pena il dover rispondere personalmente di crimini di guerra contro lo stato palestinese e affrontare un processo penale
L’Onu: «Illegale l’occupazione dei territori»
Soprattutto ora che le Nazioni Unite, con una determinazione sicuramente superiore rispetto al più recente passato, mostrano di non voler cedere sul principio del rispetto delle risoluzioni. Come ha fatto l’altro giorno il sottosegretario generale delle Nazioni Unite per gli affari politici e di costruzione della pace, Rosemary DiCarlo: «In questo giorno di commemorazione, mi rivolgo a voi con profonda preoccupazione, poiché vediamo che le prospettive di riavviare un processo politico verso una soluzione a due stati basata sulle risoluzioni delle Nazioni Unite, sul diritto internazionale e sugli accordi precedenti continuano a diminuire. In tutta la Cisgiordania occupata, compresa Gerusalemme Est, la rapida espansione degli insediamenti – illegali secondo il diritto internazionale – sta alterando drasticamente la terra immaginata per un futuro stato palestinese». DiCarlo che poi non ha esitato a rimarcare, con estrema chiarezza: «L’occupazione israeliana dei territori palestinesi deve finire perché è illegale secondo il diritto internazionale. I palestinesi meritano una vita di giustizia e dignità e la realizzazione del loro diritto all’autodeterminazione e all’indipendenza. La posizione delle Nazioni Unite è chiara: l’occupazione deve finire». Anche la presidente della Commissione Europea, Ursula von der Leyen, ha voluto mandare un messaggio chiaro: «La Nakba non è una crisi umanitaria o un disastro naturale; piuttosto è una tragedia creata dall’uomo con responsabilità che non dovrebbero essere negate, non importa quanto tempo sia passato. Nel 75° anniversario della Nakba sarebbe ingiusto trascurare la confermata, complessa e indelebile responsabilità dell’Europa per questa tragedia in corso inflitta al popolo palestinese, la maggior parte del quale è stato sradicato e sfollato dalle proprie terre».
E mentre il governo israeliano dovrà valutare fin dove spingere il braccio di ferro con l’Onu e con i suoi più fedeli alleati, i palestinesi celebrano la loro tragedia nazionale. Anche se una soluzione, stando agli attuali equilibri, non si vede. Con l’inviato delle Nazioni Unite che continua a chiedere maggiori sforzi per la pace in mezzo alla crescente tensione, anche con «scioccanti episodi di violenza nei luoghi santi». Con Amnesty International che pubblica un rapporto nel quale denuncia l’uso, da parte di Israele, di “Apartheid automatizzato” nei territori palestinesi occupati: «Le autorità israeliane sono in grado di utilizzare software di riconoscimento facciale – in particolare ai posti di blocco – per consolidare le pratiche esistenti di polizia discriminatoria, segregazione e limitazione della libertà di movimento, violando i diritti fondamentali dei palestinesi».
Ma nessuno sa davvero cosa accadrà nell’immediato futuro, e soprattutto come fare per superare lo stallo, per arrivare a una qualche soluzione. Moshe Dann, storico, scrittore e giornalista, scriveva pochi mesi fa sul Jerusalem Post: «L’alternativa più pratica e realistica alla soluzione a 2 stati potrebbe essere riconoscere la Giordania come la patria dei palestinesi, per tutti coloro che vogliono vivere in pace. Impegnarsi e sostenere il terrorismo e cercare la distruzione di Israele, semplicemente, non è un’opzione». Lo stesso quotidiano ha poi pubblicato il mese scorso un intervento di Nitsan Joy Gordon, fondatrice e direttrice dell’ong Together Beyond Words, che non perde la speranza: «Il dolore storico, i fardelli ereditati e i traumi qui sono così profondi che nessun quantitativo di pietre o di armi potrà mai esprimerlo pienamente. Se ci provassimo, ci distruggeremmo completamente l’un l’altro. Eppure, sono fiduciosa che ci sia una via d’uscita dal dolore che ha bloccato israeliani e palestinesi in un conflitto perpetuo».

The lies in question in my case are that I am a Jew-hating anti-Semite and that I am a Putin apologist on the wrong side of the war in Ukraine, and that in consequence, in Germany at least, I should be banned from performing my work.
These smear tactic lies have been so firmly entrenched in the German psyche that on Monday 8th May, in Koln, at a small protest outside the venue where I was to perform my “This Is Not A Drill” show the next day, no fewer than eight speakers lined up to denounce me as a monster anti-Semite to a small crowd.
I am being demonized because what I say about Palestine and Ukraine contradicts the orthodox view of Big Brother. I am being attacked for expressing opinions and exposing Big Brother’s lies.
So? Who runs the Ministry of truth in Germany? Who is Big Brother? Who gets to define the words in our dictionaries? What is and what is not Anti-Semitism? How did the war in Ukraine start? Was the Russian invasion in February 2022 unprovoked? Did war in Ukraine really start in February 2022 or did it start in 2014 with attacks on the Donbas by the newly installed anti-democratic, possibly neo-fascist supported, government in Kiev? It is true I wrote to Alina a young girl in Ukraine who had reached out to me, I suggested a return to the Minsk protocols for peace in the Donbas, as an alternative to war. I also wrote to Mrs. Zelenska and Mr. Putin suggesting the same thing. Fifteen months later, looking back, was I wrong to encourage negotiations? What has been achieved by pursuing the carnage of proxy war? Was I wrong to call for peace? Was I wrong to sound a warning.

I point out in my show that Animals is an homage to George Orwell and Aldous Huxley and how right they were to warn future generations of the coming dystopia. And how right I was to echo their misgivings and predictions when I wrote Animals in 1977.
That the speakers at the anti-Roger Waters protest, outside the gig seek to silence me is mind-numbingly dumb. Particularly because inside the venue I’m singing the same truth that I wrote forty five years ago in Sheep, in a show they now wish to cancel? This takes irony to depths that are beyond this bass player’s understanding.

1. The Israel Palestine issue is NOT complicated.
In contravention of all international law the apartheid state of Israel engages in building settlements in territory occupied by military force, territory designated by the UN for a Palestinian state, and is committed to the ethnic cleansing of the non-Jewish indigenous population.
2. BDS is not anti-Semitic, its aims, very specifically,
are to promote equal human rights for all the peoples between the Jordan river and the sea. All, in this case, means all ethnicities, all religions, all equally. This is not complicated; a four year old could understand it.

As we approach the 75th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba (catastrophe) we call on our supporters worldwide to join us in solidarity by taking 5 actions to help #EndIsraeliApartheid.
This week marks the 75th anniversary of the Nakba, in which between 750,000 and 1,000,000 Indigenous Palestinians were forced out of their homes and subjected to ethnic cleansing by Zionist militias and, later, the Israeli army, in order to establish the state of Israel as a Jewish supremacist settler-colony.
For 75 years, Palestinians have experienced and resisted an ongoing Nakba. From Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first PM in 1948, to Ben-Gvir, Israel’s current “national security” minister, and the ascent of Israel’s most openly racist, far-right government, Palestinians have been subjected to renewed and intensified campaigns of ethnic cleansing; settlement construction; land and water theft; repeated massacres in Gaza; mass arrests; and restrictions on movement.
On Tuesday, Israeli military forces intentionally and indiscriminately bombed families in Gaza. Over the past four days, apartheid Israel’s airstrikes on the over 2 million Palestinians under siege in Gaza have killed, so far, 31 Palestinians, including 7 children. Shockingly, in just five months, Israel’s occupation forces and illegal settlers have murdered at least 144 Palestinians, 26 of them children. (accurate at time of publishing).
Still we rise! Despite Israel’s ongoing violence and aggression, Palestinians remain resilient and steadfast in our popular resistance. Il premier israeliano ha parlato con i sindaci dei comuni del sud di Israele, che sono sotto attacco di razzi dalla Striscia, dopo che stamane Israele ha compiuto un nuovo raid aereo, in quella che è stata denominata “Operazione scudo e freccia”.
“Israele è pronto ad allargare la corrente operazione ed infliggere ed infliggere colpi pesanti a Gaza ora e in futuro”. Il premier israeliano Benyamin Netanyahu non placa la tensione con la Palestina, anzi rincara la dose parlando con i sindaci dei comuni del sud di Israele, che sono sotto attacco di razzi dalla Striscia, dopo che stamane Israele ha compiuto un nuovo raid aereo. Il raid è parte di quella che è stata denominata “Operazione scudo e freccia”, cominciata ieri contro la Palestina e la Jihad. “Israele è aperto alla possibilità di una campagna prolungata per colpire con forza Gaza” ha aggiunto Netanyahu.
Sono oltre 100 i razzi sparati da Gaza contro Israele intanto dopo il raid israeliano di stamane che, secondo i palestinesi, ha portato alla morte di due uomini. la maggior parte dei razzi contro Israele sono stati intercettati dal sistema di difesa Iron Dome. La stima è dei media israeliani, mentre l’esercito non ha ancora diffuso un dato ufficiale. January was another bloody month for us, as apartheid Israel murdered at least 36 Palestinians, including 8 children.
Under proposed new laws apartheid Israel’s far-right government plans to deport even more Palestinians from their homeland, demolish even more homes, arrest even more en masse, deploy even more forces to the occupied West Bank, give even more guns to Israeli settlers, and further cement de facto annexation.
Israeli settlers went on violent rampages through the occupied West Bank, terrorizing Palestinians, burning their cars and damaging their properties.
In Nablus 144 settler attacks against Palestinians were recorded, in just 24 hours!

So far 2023 has been a grueling year for Palestinians. In just two months Israeli occupation forces and settlers, under apartheid Israel’s far-right settler-colonial government, have carried out violent attacks and pogroms. At least70 Palestinians, including 14 children have been murdered by Israel.
During its brutal establishment through the destruction of hundreds of Palestinian villages and towns, Zionist militias and, later, Israeli forces committed massacres and used rape to terrorize Indigenous Palestinians and to induce their mass ethnic cleansing–the Nakba. Ever since, apartheid Israel has continued its oppression in an ongoing Nakba, directing its violent misogyny to Indigenous Palestinian women, viewing them as a “demographic threat”.
Generations of Palestinian women, along with the wider community, have endured multiple forms of systemic racism and colonialism. Simultaneously, Palestinian women have led the internal struggle for social and gender justice. They have defied all forms of oppression and played a leading role in shaping and articulating our collective vision towards liberation and social emancipation.
On this International Women’s Day, we are sharing stories of Palestinian women who embody resistance and steadfastness- Sumud.
We reiterate that justice is always a feminist issue, including in Palestine, and the rights of women are fundamental to our movement’s pursuit of a safe, just and dignified world for all.
Shireen Abu Akleh
The icon of the Palestinian press, Shireen was part of every Palestinian and Arab home. She did not leave a Palestinian village, city, or camp without reporting a journalistic story about it or from it, until she was assassinated by apartheid Israel’s occupation forces while she was covering their storming of Jenin’s refugee camp on 11-5-2022.
In difficult moments, I overcame fear. I chose journalism so I can be close to people. It is not easy to change reality, but at least I was able to convey that voice to the world, I’m Shireen Abu Akleh.

The sister of the two martyrs, Jawad and Dhafer Al-Rimawi
I know very well that lamentation will not bring Jawad and Zafer home, and I know that this pain will not be eased by anything. But I insist on speaking continuously, believing in the power of the word and its extended impact, and believing that talking about Jawad and Zafer and their lives is another form of resistance as well. This pain is not right for it to be repeated, it is not right for another sister to lose her two brothers, nor for a mother to live the heartbreak of her losing her children, nor for a family to bury their happiness in one day and forever. This injustice must end, and I know very well that it will end, and I know that the sun of truth, even if it is long in its absence, will shine one day, and I know with certainty that Jawad and Zafer are two names that will be immortalized in history and their stories will be told by generations.
Those responsible for killing my brothers must be held accountable. The Israeli occupation must end and its war criminals must be taken to court. How many more tragedies does the world need to see in order to act?
Umm Al-Abd, Halima Al-Kiswani
Halima was born in 1938 in the village of Beit Iksa, east of Jerusalem, and today lives in the Zarqa refugee camp in Jordan.
When the Zionist gangs attacked the village of Deir Yassin and committed the massacres there, my father, fearing that the Zionist gangs would attack women and kill children, had us flee the village towards the Jordan Valley.
Her song “Support one another people of Palestine” became famous last year and spread hope in the hearts of viewers, at a time when the Palestinians were facing difficult days and massacres in Gaza, Nablus and Jenin.
Sabreen Al-Najjar
The mother of the martyr Razan Najjar, who was shot by Israeli Apartheid forces on 1-6-2018 while providing assistance to the wounded in the Great March of Return in Gaza Strip.
One week after Razan’s martyrdom, I volunteered with the Palestinian Medical Relief Society to prove that nothing can break the Palestinian women… When I see the wounded whom Razan was helping, this prompts me to continue her journey, as she sacrificed her life for the sake of the dignity of the wounded Palestinians in the Great March of Return.
