Roger Waters torna in campo per la difesa della Palestina. L’ex Pink Floyd ha annunciato la sua presenza all’evento in live streaming Rock for Palestine, in programma il 21 Giugno alle 21.30.
Lo show, su cui sono stati diffusi pochissimi dettagli, è stato definito “un concerto unico a favore della pace, della libertà e della giustizia in Palestina”.
Oltre a Waters si esibiranno Yusuf Islam / Cat Stevens e il rapper di Long Live Palestine Lowkey, ma il cast è ancora in via di definizione.
Negli ultimi mesi, Roger Waters si è più volte schierato contro la politica di Israele nei confronti dei palestinesi. Lo scorso novembre si era espresso sugli attacchi del 7 ottobre affermando che “Hamas aveva l’obbligo morale di resistere all’occupazione”. Una posizione, la sua, che aveva attirato molte critiche.

Ormai è sempre più frequente la sabbia in sospensione o dal Sahara a causa dei cambiamenti climatici. “Non chiamatela sabbia”, ci dice la dottoressa, “piuttosto micro polveri che arrivano fino a noi non senza problemi per la salute”. In effetti il fenomeno di quella che comunamente viene detta “sabbia del Sahara”, non è raro e sta diventando sempre più frequente alle nostre latitudini a causa dei cambiamenti climatici. Cielo giallo, grigio, lattiginoso, insomma sembrano nuvole invece sono micro polveri. Come le PM10 che certo bene non fanno. Il fenomeno, spiega ancora la dottoressa, può portare irritazioni,asma,problemi respiratori, affaticamento. Dunque è bene prevenire ma questo non serve solo in tale occasione: “Evitare il fumo e tenere sotto controllo le eventuali malattie respiratorie”. Si può far uso anche alle mascherine là dove la concentrazione di polveri sottili è elevata.
Si stima che dal Sahara si sollevino ogni anno circa 180 milioni di tonnellate di polveri che vanno ad aggiungersi al PM2.5 e PM10, il pulviscolo già presente in atmosfera, con ripercussioni sul fronte della salute. Le categorie più a rischio sono bambini, anziani, cardiopatici e chi soffre di malattie respiratorie, a partire dall’asma. Uno studio pubblicato sulla rivista scientifica internazionale Occupational and Environmental Medicine ha accertato un aumento dei ricoveri ospedalieri per cause respiratorie in presenza di polveri sahariane nell’aria. Il consiglio alle persone a rischio è quello di evitarne il più possibile l’esposizione. Consolazione è che le previsioni meteo dicono che in questo fine settimana con probabili precipitazione la sabbia verrà spazzata via.

Se da un lato Covid sembra avere allentato la morsa infettiva, con numeri via via in calo, i postumi del virus continuano ad aumentare e cresce il numero di persone che sperimentano la sindrome da Long Covid: sintomi tenaci come «fatica, mal di testa cronico, difficoltà a compiere attività quotidiane, ma anche problemi cardiaci e neurologici, colpiscono il 45% degli italiani (e dei milanesi) infettati nel corso di una delle tante ondate», ricorda in una nota l’Ordine dei medici di Milano annunciano un’iniziativa di formazione per i camici bianchi dedicata a questo fenomeno di cui – archiviata la pandemia in senso stretto – si parla meno ormai.
Ma «la sindrome post Covid determina un impatto sociosanitario rilevante sul sistema sanitario nazionale», spiega Roberto Carlo Rossi, presidente dell’Ordine milanese (OmceoMi). «Se in qualche misura grazie ai vaccini e alle migliori conoscenze siamo riusciti a contrastare gli effetti della ‘prima’ infezione da Covid, oggi la sfida, se così la vogliamo chiamare, è rappresentata dalla capacità di gestire al meglio anche gli effetti del Long-Covid». Secondo l’Istituto superiore di sanità, sono i dati citati dall’Ordine meneghino, in Italia tra il 2021 e 2022 i decessi collegati al post Covid sono stati 4.700, un numero sottostimato.
«Nel milanese una proporzione indica un atteso intorno ai 350 decessi». Dati, spiegano da OmceoMi, «che richiamano alla necessità di una maggiore sensibilizzazione al tema, sia della medicina del territorio che della popolazione».
Con questo obiettivo parte domani, giovedì 20 giugno, sulla piattaforma di OmceoMi, la Formazione a distanza (Fad) asincrona ‘Epidemiologia, clinica e gestione della sindrome Post Covid’.
Obiettivo conoscere meglio «il fenomeno delle persone colpite che presentano, a distanza di settimane dal termine dell’infezione acuta, varie manifestazioni cliniche subacute e croniche, spesso decisamente invalidanti e perduranti nel tempo, anche diversi mesi, con un impatto sensibile, oltre che sui costi assistenziali e gestionali, anche sulla qualità della vita della persona.
I primi numeri disponibili lo dimostrano, e molti altri ne arriveranno a confermarlo», evidenzia Rossi.
«Da qui la necessità di realizzare un corso specifico, per età adulta e pediatrica, che possa essere di aiuto nel riconoscimento e nel trattamento di questa sindrome definendo soprattutto un percorso cui avviare i pazienti, che spesso dichiarano di sentirsi poco compresi e aiutati. Ancora una volta l’Omceo ambrosiano si fa apripista di una tematica che viene fatta passare quasi sotto silenzio ma che colpisce molti cittadini (e molti medici, che si sono ammalati in prima linea) e che non hanno neppure riconosciuta un’esenzione per patologia o tabellato un codice specifico di invalidità”.
Il corso ha «un duplice obiettivo – dichiarano i responsabili scientifici e consiglieri OmceoMi, Maria Grazia Manfredi e Massimo Parise – Da un lato fornire (in)formazione sulla sindrome post Covid, inquadrata in ambito clinico (dati epidemiologici, possibili manifestazioni e sequele, quindi la gestione della condizione in tutte le sue svariate implicazioni mirate al paziente giusto, adulto o bambino); dall’altro, offrire ai clinici, specialisti e alla medicina del territorio, delle indicazioni che possano aiutare a standardizzare e uniformare un approccio al paziente fornendo un trattamento efficace».

Secondo le stime interessa circa il 10-20% delle persone colpite dal coronavirus. Quattro anni dopo lo scoppio della pandemia, la ricerca continua a indagare sui disturbi che perdurano per più di 12 settimane
Statistiche ufficiali non ce ne sono né per l’Italia né per altri Paesi e quando si parla diLong Covid bisogna mettere in conto che molte domande sono ancora senza risposta. A quattro anni dallo scoppio della pandemia di Covid-19 la ricerca scientifica è tenacemente all’opera in tutto il mondo per «risolvere il puzzle Long Covid», come titola uno degli studi di revisione più ampi, pubblicato di recente fa sulla rivista Science. Ci sono tanti pezzi, certamente non tutti, e molto resta da fare per capire come metterli insieme.
Le sottovarianti Omicron
Con un’aggiunta: parecchi frammenti del puzzle sono cambiati nel tempo con l’arrivo di diverse varianti del virus. L’Organizzazione Mondiale della Sanità ha deciso di chiamarla ufficialmente post Covid-19 condition: è la condizione di persistenza di segni e sintomi che continuano (o si sviluppano) oltre le 12 settimane dal termine della fase acuta di malattia. Milioni di persone ne hanno sofferto e ancora ne stanno soffrendo.
I numeri
«Secondo diversi studi questa condizione, che preclude un pieno ritorno al precedente stato di salute, può colpire fino a 1 persona su 2, ma le stime più condivise dicono che circa il 10-20% di chi ha contratto l’infezione da Sars-CoV-2 va incontro a sequele sul lungo periodo» dice Sergio Harari, professore di Medicina Interna all’Università degli Studi di Milano.
Lungo quanto? «Settimane o mesi, ma sono documentati numerosi casi di Long Covid persistente, ovvero di persone che non sono mai guarite» precisa Harari, che è anche direttore della Pneumologia e della Medicina interna all’Ospedale San Giuseppe Multi-Medica di Milano.
Considerando che i casi accertati di Covid-19 nel nostro Paese a oggi sono più di 25 milioni, fra 2.5 e 5 milioni di italiani hanno fatto anche esperienza di Long Covid (le stime per l’Europa si aggirano attorno ai 17 milioni).
Alcune cose appaiono comunque chiare, a partire dal fatto che i disturbi possono colpire tutti: bambini, adulti e anziani, uomini e donne, non emergono differenze epidemiologiche fra le diverse etnie. «Sappiamo poi che soffre meno di Long Covid chi si è vaccinato e che rischia di più chi ha avuto un’infezione in forma grave: soprattutto chi viene ospedalizzato (e ancor di più chi ha avuto bisogno di terapia intensiva) ha maggiori probabilità di sequele indesiderate — dice Alessandro Nobili, capo del Dipartimento di Politiche per la Salute all’Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche Mario Negri —. E che a varianti del virus differenti (come Delta, Omicron, ecc.) sembrano corrispondere altrettante conseguenze sul lungo periodo. In particolare la perdita di gusto e olfatto ha interessato soprattutto chi si è infettato agli inizi».
Nonostante queste poche certezze, va detto che parecchi casi di Long Covid sono stati registrati in chi ha contratto l’infezione in forma medio-lieve perché a oggi (dopo la vaccinazione massiccia e l’attenuazione della gravità del virus) la maggior parte delle persone non ha sofferto di Covid-19 nelle sua forma grave.
Oltre 200 sintomi
A complicare notevolmente il quadro c’è poi il fatto che la sindrome post Covid può interessare praticamente tutto il corpo e che sono stati catalogati circa 200 sintomi. I dati raccolti dal «progetto Long-CoViD» coordinato dall’Istituto Superiore di Sanità scattano la fotografia dei sintomi più frequenti in Italia a dicembre 2023: astenia (stanchezza cronica o fatigue), affaticamento respiratorio e mancanza di fiato (dispnea), disturbi del sonno e della memoria, dolori articolari e muscolari, difficoltà di concentrazione.
Categorie a rischio
Valutando le informazioni su milioni di persone alle quali è stata diagnosticata la sindrome post Covid emergono alcune categorie più esposte al rischio di svilupparlo in foma severa: chi ha un’età più avanzata, le donne, chi è obeso o sovrappeso, chi soffre di altre malattie (come diabete, ipertensione arteriosa, asma, ad esempio).
I test diagnostici
«Gran parte delle difficoltà risiede anche nel fatto che a fronte di tanti sintomi diversi non esiste un unico test di diagnosi — spiega Amedeo Capetti, responsabile dell’Ambulatorio rivalutazione Covid all’Ospedale Sacco di Milano —. E poi nella grande maggioranza delle persone i disturbi durano qualche mese (in media un anno). «Nei nostri ambulatori, però, seguiamo soprattutto i pazienti che hanno problemi permanenti — aggiunge —. Spossatezza e annebbiamento cerebrale sono i più duraturi, debilitanti e invalidanti. Abbiamo persone che sono persino state costrette a lasciare il lavoro e non esistono cure specifiche». Le conseguenze neurologiche, ma anche quelle neuromuscolari, poi, sono difficili da inquadrare e ricondurre a Long Covid, per cui spesso chi ne soffre patisce pure la frustrazione di non ricevere una diagnosi.
Le terapie
Quali terapie si possono prescrivere? «Valutiamo caso per caso — conclude Capetti —. Per la spossatezza il 70-80% dei pazienti sembra avere miglioramenti con integratori che riducono lo stress ossidativo. E abbiamo capito che la fatigue è “altalenante”, a volte sembra scomparire, altre volte però poi torna. Per la perdita di gusto e olfatto (prevalenti soprattutto nel Long Covid della prima ondata) non abbiamo rimedi: i più recuperano in fretta, ma c’è chi ci mette 12 mesi (passando per alterazioni difficili da sopportare), chi non recupera completamente e una minima quota di persone che, dopo quattro anni, non ha ancora riacquistato questi sensi».

Four years after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, scientific research is tenaciously working all over the world to «solve the Long Covid puzzle», as the title of one of the largest review studies, recently published in the journal Science. There are many pieces, certainly not all, and much remains to be done to understand how to put them together.
The Omicron subvariations
With one addition: several fragments of the puzzle have changed over time with the arrival of different variants of the virus. The World Health Organization has decided to officially call it the post Covid-19 condition: it is the condition of persistence of signs and symptoms that continue (or develop) beyond 12 weeks from the end of the acute phase of the disease. Millions of people have suffered and are still suffering from it.
The numbers
«According to several studies, this condition, which precludes a full return to the previous state of health, can affect up to 1 in 2 people, but the most shared estimates say that around 10-20% of those who have contracted the Sars- CoV-2 faces long-term sequelae” says Sergio Harari, professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Milan.
How long? «Weeks or months, but numerous cases of persistent Long Covid are documented, that is, people who have never recovered» specifies Harari, who is also director of Pneumology and Internal Medicine at the San Giuseppe Multi-Medica Hospital in Milan.
Considering that the confirmed cases of Covid-19 in our country to date are more than 25 million, between 2.5 and 5 million Italians have also experienced Long Covid (estimates for Europe are around 17 million).
However, some things appear clear, starting from the fact that the disorders can affect everyone: children, adults and the elderly, men and women, no epidemiological differences emerge between the different ethnic groups. «We also know that those who have been vaccinated suffer less from Long Covid and that those who have had a serious infection are more at risk: especially those who are hospitalized (and even more so those who have needed intensive care) are more likely to have sequelae. unwanted – says Alessandro Nobili, head of the Department of Health Policies at the Mario Negri Institute of Pharmacological Research -. Over 200 symptoms
What makes the picture considerably more complicated is the fact that post-Covid syndrome can affect practically the entire body and that around 200 symptoms have been catalogued. The data collected by the «Long-CoViD project» coordinated by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità take a snapshot of the most frequent symptoms in Italy in December 2023: asthenia (chronic tiredness or fatigue), respiratory fatigue and shortness of breath (dyspnea), breathing disorders sleep and memory, joint and muscle pain, difficulty concentrating.
Categories at risk
Evaluating the information on millions of people who have been diagnosed with post-Covid syndrome, some categories emerge that are more exposed to the risk of developing it in a severe form: those of an older age, women, those who are obese or overweight, those who suffer from other diseases (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, for example).
Diagnostic tests
«A large part of the difficulty also lies in the fact that in the face of many different symptoms there is no single diagnostic test – explains Amedeo Capetti, head of the Covid re-evaluation clinic at the Sacco Hospital in Milan -. And then in the vast majority of people the disorders last a few months (on average a year). «In our clinics, however, we mainly follow patients who have permanent problems – he adds -. Fatigue and brain fog are the most long-lasting, debilitating and disabling. We have people who have even been forced to leave their jobs and there is no specific treatment.” The neurological consequences, but also the neuromuscular ones, are difficult to frame and trace back to Long Covid, so those who suffer from it often also suffer the frustration of not receiving a diagnosis.
The therapies
What therapies can be prescribed? «We evaluate case by case – concludes Capetti -. For fatigue 70-80% of patients seem to have improvements with supplements that reduce oxidative stress. And we understood that fatigue is “up and down”, sometimes it seems to disappear, but other times it comes back. For the loss of taste and smell (especially prevalent in the Long Covid of the first wave) we have no remedies: most recover quickly, but there are those who take 12 months (going through alterations that are difficult to bear), those who do not recover completely and a minimal share of people who, after four years, have not yet regained these senses.”

Un milione di metri cubi di acqua persi in un solo giorno. In questi giorni di caldo, polveri sahariane e afa c’è un bacino, più di altri, che racconta l’emergenza siccità in corso. Non è in Sicilia dove le terre sono sempre più aride e nemmeno in Sardegna dove i territori secchi vanno a fuoco, ma al confine tra Molise e Puglia: qui, il lago di Occhito, uno degli invasi artificiali con maggiore capienza in Europa, è in estrema sofferenza. Secondo i dati del Consorzio per la bonifica della Capitanata di Foggia il lago, realizzato grazie a uno sbarramento sul fiume Fortore, nelle ultime rilevazioni in 24 ore è passato da una disponibilità idrica di 127.634.300 milioni di metri cubi a 126.641.200 milioni.
Di fatto la disponibilità idrica si è quasi dimezzata rispetto allo stesso periodo del 2023. L’invaso, che appartiene per metà alla provincia di Campobasso e per l’altra a quella di Foggia ed è lungo circa 12 chilometri che rappresentano il confine fra le due regioni, è uno dei più importanti bacini per l’approvvigionamento idrico in Puglia e Molise. Ha una capacità totale di 333 milioni di metri cubi d’acqua, di cui 250 quelli utilizzabili. Il 18 giugno del 2023 la disponibilità idrica era di 240 milioni di metri quadri, ora siamo appunto intorno ai 127. Ciò significa, ricordano gli esperti, che se la siccità dovesse prolungarsi ancora a lungo si prospettano possibili razionamenti dell’acqua durante l’estate. Il Molise e la Puglia sono entrambi territori che rientrano fra le dodici regioni italiane ad elevato stress idrico secondo un recente report della Community “Valore Acqua” per l’Italia di The European House-Ambrosetti.
Il lago di Occhito non è esente da questo stress: a causa delle temperature che si innalzano, dell’evaporazione e della scarsità delle precipitazioni, la carenza idrica sta cominciando a farsi sentire in maniera sempre più critica. Lo stesso vale per il Liscione e per altri vicini bacini del sud. Come ha ricordato ai media locali il presidente di Molise Acque, Stefano Sabatini, “è urgente intervenire per evitare una crisi ancora più profonda nei prossimi mesi”. Si parla anche della possibilità di chiusure notturne delle reti idriche di distribuzione, in Molise, per tentare di preservare il bene acqua.
La carenza inoltre, e in particolare quella legata proprio al bacino di Occhito – considerato il secondo lago artificiale per capienza più grande d’Europa – sta impattando direttamente sull’agricoltura. Come spiega Coldiretti Molise, preoccupata per la situazione, è necessario agire per “creare una rete di invasi artificiali di piccole dimensioni per la raccolta dell’acqua piovana, ferma oggi in Italia ad appena l’11%. Ciò consentirebbe di garantire acqua per gli usi civili, per la produzione agricola e per generare energia pulita”.

It is not in Sicily where the lands are increasingly arid nor in Sardinia where the dry territories are on fire, but on the border between Molise and Puglia: here, Lake Occhito, one of the artificial reservoirs with the greatest capacity in Europe, is in extreme suffering. According to data from the Consortium for the reclamation of the Capitanata di Foggia, the lake, created thanks to a dam on the Fortore river, in the last 24 hours has gone from a water availability of 127,634,300 million cubic meters to 126,641,200 million.
In fact, water availability has almost halved compared to the same period in 2023. As the president of Molise Acque, Stefano Sabatini, reminded the local media, “it is urgent to intervene to avoid an even deeper crisis in the coming months”. There is also talk of the possibility of night-time closures of the water distribution networks in Molise, in an attempt to preserve the water resource.

BELLUNO – «Hanno detto che ho forzato un posto di blocco: balle» racconta la donna settantaseienne che domenica, procedendo con l’auto lungo una strada provinciale interessata da una gara ciclistica, la Sportful Dolomiti Race, si è scontrata con un gruppo di ciclisti impegnati nella competizione, lanciati in discesa verso Rivamonte Agordino: quattro di questi sono finiti all’ospedale con fratture. La signora, che domenica mattina stava andando a messa e, sul luogo dell’incidente, ha detto che era in ritardo, ammette il proprio errore, giudicando di «essere stata sciocca ad andare avanti lo stesso» e quindi ignorando le indicazioni di chi le aveva chiesto di fermarsi, ma muove anche critiche all’organizzazione dell’evento e riporta che altre vetture, prima di lei (ma quanto prima di lei?), erano passate senza problemi. «Cercheranno di dare tutta la colpa a me. Ma non sono sicura che sia proprio così». Dall’altra parte della barricata, Ivan Piol, presidente del comitato organizzatore della gara, ha deciso di querelare la conducente della Peugeot 206, come aveva già fatto intendere piuttosto chiaramente domenica: «Stiamo già interagendo con il nostro legale di fiducia per tutelarci, perché questo è un danno di immagine senza pari. Il fatto che siamo finiti su tutti i giornali in prima pagina oggi, non per la cronaca sportiva ma per la cronaca nera, non è sicuramente positivo».
Stefano Cecchini è tra i ciclisti travolti
Fra i quattro ciclisti coinvolti in modo più serio, c’è anche Stefano Cecchini, corridore lucchese affezionato alle Dolomiti: per lui trenta punti sul volto, due denti in meno e un’operazione chirurgica per ridurre la frattura dell’omero, che per un po’ lo terrà giù dalla sella. Conseguenze di media gravità per un incidente che, come affermano gli organizzatori, si sarebbe potuto facilmente trasformare in una tragedia, sia per la velocità delle biciclette in discesa, sia per le caratteristiche della strada. Ma la signora, che è abituata a percorrere quella provinciale e abita a pochi chilometri dal luogo dello scontro, lo ribadisce più volte: «Non c’era nessun posto di blocco. C’erano solo dei tizi che facevano segno di fermarsi, ma succede tante volte per strada, di incontrarne. E allora capita che, vedendoli, uno vada avanti lo stesso, pian piano senza correre. Se si fossero messi davanti all’auto o se avessi sospettato che i ciclisti erano in arrivo mi sarei certamente fermata».
La fretta di arrivare a messa
Sarebbe stata la fretta di arrivare a messa il motivo del suo azzardo ed è stato questo forse l’elemento più curioso di tutta la vicenda: il giorno dopo la signora non conferma quest’ipotesi, ma dice di aver semplicemente preso alla leggera un ordine impartito da una persona di cui non ha riconosciuto l’autorità. L’eco della notizia ha portato in televisione anche la voce di alcuni presunti testimoni: «Ho visto il direttore di gara intimare alla macchina di fermarsi e di accostare perché stavano arrivando i corridori. La signora è ripartita perché poi il direttore di gara se n’è andato avanti» spiega uno di loro. Saranno i carabinieri, che anche ieri mattina sono tornati sul posto per effettuare ulteriori accertamenti, a definire se le responsabilità siano unicamente della signora o se qualcosa non abbia funzionato a livello organizzativo. Nel frattempo i responsabili della corsa, che quest’anno ha attirato quasi quattromila sportivi da tutto il mondo, amareggiati per la macchia negativa in un bilancio più che positivo, promettono di attrezzarsi per tutelare sia se stessi sia i partecipanti.

Cecchini è uno dei volti di spicco delle granfondo e un ciclista di notevole spessore tanto che alcuni anni fa si era paventata addirittura l’ipotesi di un suo passaggio nei professionisti. Classe 1978, inaspettatamente, e a oltre trent’anni, ha iniziato a inanellare una serie impressionante di vittorie nelle gran fondo europee, con vittorie alla stessa Sportful Dolomiti Race, alla Maratona dles Dolomites (dove fece discutere il suo “lancio” della bicicletta dopo aver tagliato trionfalmente il traguardo) e innumerevoli altri trionfi nelle competizioni più note. La bici quindi Cecchini sapeva come condurla e pennellare le traiettorie, dato che spesso i ciclisti di questo calibro in discesa raggiungono velocità prossime ai 100 km/h. Ma Cecchini, a prescindere dai suoi ben noti riflessi, di certo non poteva aspettarsi quell’auto spuntare all’improvviso. Sui profili social Cecchini scrive: «Grazie di cuore a tutte le persone che mi sono state vicine e a chi mi ha soccorso e curato». Cecchini è consapevole dei tempi di recupero per tornare in sella e vincere lo “shock” dell’incidente patito. L’augurio è che al forte atleta lucchese, e agli altri tre malcapitati, possa tornare la voglia di calpestare le strade delle Dolomiti e accettare quindi una nuova sfida al cronometro.
Il tema della sicurezza nelle competizioni sportive tornerà con maggiore forza anche nei prossimi giorni poiché la parte alta della provincia sarà interessata da altre manifestazioni ciclistiche con la chiusura delle strade, fra le quali il Dolomites Bike Day di sabato 22 giugno e la Maratona dles Dolomites il prossimo 7 luglio, sebbene queste prevedano la chiusura totale al traffico per tutta la loro durata. Uno dei pionieri della bicicletta in Agordino e ideatore di svariate manifestazioni ciclistiche è Silvano Rudatis, che racconta il suo punto di vista: «Il fatto di domenica potrebbe verificarsi più volte. Io e altri volontari prestiamo servizio viabilità alla gara ciclistica svizzera a tappe Haute Route, che arriva ogni estate sul nostro territorio. Noi sorvegliamo il percorso sui passi, ma molti automobilisti non ubbidiscono ai nostri ordini e ci chiedono frettolosamente che titolo abbiamo per fermare il traffico. Bisognerebbe quindi che ci fossero le forze dell’ordine».
Un’alternativa potrebbe essere non chiudere affatto le strade, con i ciclisti che pedalano assieme al normale traffico veicolare. «In una gara come quella di domenica – continua Rudatis, – credo sia impossibile. Sarebbero troppi 3800 ciclisti nel normale traffico veicolare. Per manifestazioni con minori numeri invece credo di sì, come facevamo noi con la Re Giau, dove si pedalava tra le auto, ma in quel caso c’erano un centinaio di ciclisti. Credo però che gli abitanti dei paesi possano sopportare un’ora di chiusura delle strade, specie in questo periodo dove il flusso turistico non è ancora elevato».

The Dolomiti race and the other races
The issue of safety in sports competitions will return with greater force in the coming days as the upper part of the province will be affected by other cycling events with road closures, including the Dolomites Bike Day on Saturday 22 June and the Maratona dles Dolomites on next July 7th, although these provide for total closure to traffic for their entire duration. One of the pioneers of cycling in Agordino and creator of various cycling events is Silvano Rudatis, who tells his point of view: «The event on Sunday could happen several times. I and other volunteers provide road services at the Haute Route Swiss stage cycling race, which arrives in our area every summer. Per la prima volta in Italia si terrà un processo penale per inquinamento ambientale colposo nei confronti degli amministratori pubblici regionali e comunali che hanno avuto una responsabilità sulla qualità dell’aria. Martedì mattina a Torino, ci sarà la prima udienza del processo “Smog”. Sette gli imputati, tra i quali gli ex sindaci Piero Fassino e Chiara Appendino e l’ex presidente della Regione Sergio Chiamparino. Dovranno rispondere del reato di inquinamento ambientale colposo per il periodo 2015-2019. Secondo l’accusa, non avrebbero adottato misure efficaci per evitare il continuo sforamento dei limiti di concentrazione degli inquinanti nell’aria stabiliti dalla legge, sforamenti che hanno determinato, secondo i consulenti tecnici della Procura della Repubblica, oltre mille morti premature e numerosi ricoveri ospedalieri. Un processo pioniere a livello italiano. Non era mai accaduto prima che i rappresentanti di un ente pubblico venissero rinviati a giudizio per questo reato. In passato altre inchieste in altre città non avevano superato il vaglio del giudice.
Tutto nasce da un esposto presentato sette anni fa dal presidente del comitato Torino RespiraRoberto Mezzalama: “Provavo una grande frustrazione personale nel vedere crescere i miei figli in una delle città più inquinate d’Europa” racconta al telefono al ilfattoquotidiano.it Mezzalama che da anni è impegnato nel monitoraggio civico dell’inquinamento e nell’attività di sensibilizzazione sui temi ambientali nelle scuole. “Era un giorno di febbraio, stavo pedalando in mezzo allo smog, l’aria era talmente inquinata che si poteva tagliare con un coltello e così ho deciso di coinvolgere gli amici avvocati e dopo un lavoro tecnico e giuridico piuttosto approfondito abbiamo deciso di depositare l’esposto”.
Il tema centrale è che “sui siti del Comune e della Regione erano pubblicate relazioni degli epidemiologi dell’ARPA che parlavano chiaramente di molte centinaia di morti a causa dello smog ogni anno. Quindi era evidente come gli amministratori fossero perfettamente a conoscenza della situazione, ma non stessero affatto prendendo le decisioni necessarie a risolvere il problema, anzi”. Così nasce l’idea di presentare l’esposto. “Anche perché se la politica da sola non affronta questi temi, occorre bisogna portare la discussione su un altro piano, quello legale”. E come spesso accade anche in altri campi “purtroppo i cittadini e la magistratura arrivano prima della politica”.
Il comitato Torino Respira ha dato il suo contributo allo sviluppo delle indagini – chiuse poco meno di un anno fa – con diverse memorie di approfondimento sui rischi dello smog. “Gli effetti dell’inquinamento si manifestano sia sul breve sia sul lungo periodo – ricorda Simona Ferrero, dottoressa in Medicina interna all’Ospedale Molinette e membro del comitato Torino Respira – sui bambini vi sono danni quali l’aumento delle infezioni alle basse vie respiratorie, l’aumento delle riacutizzazioni di asma e sembrerebbe esserci una probabile associazione con un ritardo dello sviluppo neurocognitivo. E dall’altro lato esisterebbe anche un’associazione probabile con lo sviluppo di malattie neurocognitive come l’Alzheimer”. E così martedì mattina si aprirà un processo storico per il mondo dell’ambientalismo italiano. E il comitato Torino Respira chiederà di costituirsi parte civile per portare anche in sede processuale il proprio contributo scientifico.
“Se il Tribunale di Torino deciderà di proseguire il processo, nelle udienze successive si aprirà un confronto molto importante tra accusa e difesa” aggiunge l’avvocato del Comitato Marino Careglio. Un processo che sarà utile anche per “comprendere le ragioni del grave stato di inquinamento dell’aria di Torino, i danni alla salute provocati dallo smog e anche le eventuali responsabilità di coloro che avevano il compito di tutelare la qualità dell’aria e la salute dei cittadini”. Di tutto questo si parlerà durante le prossime udienze mentre fuori dalle aule di tribunale il Comitato Torino Respira continuerà a portare avanti le sue campagne di monitoraggio civico dell’aria attraverso la distribuzione di campionatori e l’analisi dei dati dal basso. “La prossima azione partirà il 26 giugno – conclude Mezzalama – per ricordare che lo smog uccide anche d’estate”. L’obiettivo è quello di raccogliere i dati sull’ozono, un inquinante presente soprattutto d’estate ed è in crescita, anche a causa del riscaldamento globale.

E’ quanto emerge dai risultati dell’autopsia eseguita dal laboratorio di Ginevra, ed effettuata su richiesta di Souha Arafat, moglie del leader dell’Organizzazione per la liberazione della Palestina (Olp), che morì nel novembre del 2004 all’ospedale militare di Clamart, a Parigi, all’età di 75 anni. Dalle analisi emergono livelli di polonio sul suo corpo diciotto volte superiori alla norma.
Secondo i medici, che hanno consegnato i risultati alla Commissione palestinese di inchiesta che indaga sulle cause della morte dell’ex presidente, c’è l’83% di possibilità che Arafat sia stato avvelenato con sostanze radioattive. Stando al rapporto di 108 pagine, redatto da specialisti dell’università di Losanna e ottenuto in esclusiva dall’emittente Al-Jazeera, sono stati rinvenuti elevati livelli di polonio nelle costole e nel bacino. Dave Barclay, noto scienziato forense britannico, ha dichiarato all’emittente del Qatar che i risultati delle analisi dimostrano che il leader palestinese è stato ucciso. “Yasser Arafat è deceduto per avvelenamento da polonio. Abbiamo trovato la pistola fumante che ha causato il suo decesso. Quello che non sappiamo è chi ha impugnato la pistola”, ha affermato. Il nuovo progetto di promozione turistica è stato presentato questa mattina a Pescara, nella sede della Regione Abruzzo, in Piazza Unione. L’anno scorso l’Educational Tour portò, in pochi mesi, a pubblicare su alcuni cataloghi delle agenzie tedesche i primi pacchetti di viaggio in Abruzzo, a tema vacanze della salute e del benessere personale.
Oggi alla conferenza stampa hanno partecipato il sottosegretario alla presidenza della Giunta regionale, Daniele D’Amario, il dirigente del servizio programmazione e promozione turistica di Regione Abruzzo, Carlo Tereo De Landerset, e i rappresentanti dei tour operator tedeschi, tra i quali Michaela Wierzbinski e Hans Dittrich.
“Abbiamo avviato un progetto mirato alla promozione turistica, dopo l’esperienza di un Educational Tour che si è svolto lo scorso anno in Abruzzo e ha visto la partecipazione di 23 tour operator tedeschi – ha detto D’Amario -. Il ministero della Salute tedesco ha finanziato un progetto che sostiene le spese ai cittadini che scelgono di trascorre le vacanze all’estero mirate a migliorare la salute e il benessere personale.
I primi gruppi sono arrivati a giugno di quest’anno e i prossimi saranno presenti nel mese di settembre. È un progetto che non ha costi per il nostro bilancio e consente di destagionalizzare l’offerta turistica; c’è molto interesse da parte dei tour operator tedeschi verso il nostro territorio. Siamo attrattivi, abbiamo un sistema di servizi turistici in forte crescita e puntiamo a raggiungere numeri importanti”.
L’iniziativa prevede servizi di assistenza sanitaria e prevenzione in genere, forniti ai cittadini tedeschi dai programmi specifici del Ministero della Sanità, attraverso convenzioni con partner “utilizzatori” (camere di commercio, federazioni e associazioni sportive, imprese o enti con dipendenti), partner “sostenitori” (compagnie di assicurazione sanitaria, organismi pubblici o privati sponsor o interessati ai programmi del Chiosco) e centri di servizi sanitari e fisioterapia, agenzie di comunicazione e agenzie di viaggi convenzionate.
